Work & Client Experience

Honeyball Soccer Club. Why the name?

As I was researching what I wanted to name this site, I knew I wanted it to tie into the history of women’s soccer. We all know that is tenuous (to say the least), so I wanted it to reflect positivity. To move forward.

I came across the story of Nettie Honeyball and I knew instantly that’s who I wanted it to pay homage to. Naturally, the name Honeyball just rolled off the tongue.

However, I soon discovered that the idea was already taken. While I arrived at it on my own, it wasn’t an original idea. Someone else beat me to it.

That said, I decided to proceed. The other site hasn’t been active in more than a year. Its last post was June 30, 2022. Its last Twitter activity was July 12, 2022. Its last Instagram post was Jan. 14, 2022.

I made efforts to reach out to them, but never heard back, so I’ll proceed with the name Honeyball Soccer Club.

Is it a club? Sure. But not in the traditional ‘soccer club’ sense.

It’s a club open to anyone interested and willing to help promote women’s soccer in the United States and beyond. That’s about the only prerequisite.

I don’t care your age, gender, race, political leaning, the team you root for, or whether you call it soccer or football. As long as you support women’s soccer, you’re welcome in this club.
